Ship Registry

Commercial Yachts

Any Commercial Yacht proposed for registry must be at least 24 metres in length and must be classed with one of the Classification Societies recognised by the Isle of Man. Vessels must also comply with the UK Mega Yacht Code.

Registry Requirement

Commercial Yachts are registered in exactly the same manner as Merchant Ships except that all yachts are subject to a pre-registration survey by an Isle of Man Senior Surveyor prior to registration. Vessels are registered if the surveyor is satisfied that the vessel complies with the Large Yacht Code and it is suitable for registration in the Isle of Man.

The owner must be a "Qualified Owner", with a Representative Person present in the Isle of Man.

After Registry

Commercial Yachts are automatically entered into the Alternative Fees Scheme on registry for yachts under 500GRT and after completion of the initial ISM/ISPS audits for yachts over 500GRT. All yachts will be visited by an Isle of Man surveyor at 30 month intervals. Each vessel will be thoroughly inspected and the attending surveyor will undertake any necessary audits and Yacht Code surveys that are due. All yachts over 500GRT will receive an ISM audit along with an ISPS Code Security verification audit.
