Ship Registry

Commercial Yachts under Construction

The Isle of Man Ship Registry should be informed as soon as possible when a new build yacht is proposed for the register. Normally for new build yachts there will be three survey visits :-

  • An initial meeting to discuss the design with the Yard/Class/Owners. Appoint Class and discuss the division of work for the project and any issues arising from the proposed design.
  • Attend a mid build survey to ensure structural fire protection is in place correctly, discuss outstanding issues and/or equivalents and monitor Class and the progress of the yacht.
  • Attend a final survey at or about delivery to ensure all Large Yacht Code requirements have been met and the ISM or mini-ISM system is in place onboard. Discuss manning requirements and any other issues with the Master for operating a commercial yacht on the Isle of Man Register.
  • An Isle of Man Senior Surveyor will liaise with all parties during the project, answering queries and assisting with the registration process.

A fixed fee for all the meeting/survey visits, including flight costs, registration costs and the initial certification (Safe Manning and Large Yacht Code Compliance certificates) will be charged in accordance with our current Fees Regulations.

Please contact the Principal Surveyor at marine.survey@gov.im for a quotation.
