Ashley has Seafaring in the blood with both his Father & Grandfather being Master Mariners.  Starting off working weekends and holidays during the end of school years and college days from the age of 15 on a 1958 built passenger ferry gave a good introduction to working on ships.  From the age of 18 completing the HND route OOW Deck Officer into Mates and Masters II-1 and II-2 sailing on VLCC, container and general cargo ships.  After a good 12 years at Sea supporting Company audits and covering as DPA Ashley then moved ashore working as a Senior Surveyor in the Isle of Man Ship Registry since 2012.  This has provided a wide range of Company and vessel types throughout the Isle of Man Ship Registry fleet to make Ashley a highly experienced Auditor, inspector, investigator and Surveyor.

A keen fitness fanatic, Ashley reached a high level in taekwondo obtaining 2 silvers and a bronze in the British open championships, 2 golds and a silver in the Cornish open. Since moving to the island in 2012 he has participated in a number of running, bike and snake races, plus the parish walk and enjoyed skiing, golf, handball, pickleball, squash, badminton, football, volleyball, climbing, bouldering and swimming (especially in the sea).  Ashley has got heavily involved in the Activ8 government fitness scheme as its most active user.  This has further inspired him to complete his level 2 Gym instructors course to be able to cover fitness Classes giving support back into the scheme.

Ashley is also a keen Numismatist and enjoys art but leaves this to his incredibly talented Daughter.
